Bart the Genius

This is probably my second favourite episode of season 1 behind Bart the General. It's is quite fitting that this episode would be written by the great Jon Vitti as he certainly had a way of writing great character episodes and emotional ones too.

The episode is the backing of the standard of intellectualism in the Simpson house where Bart is seen as stupid but we all know that he has tendencies to be extremely smart when it comes to certain things and in this episode when he is pestered about being stupid and cheating by Martin he enactsd revenge ion him by exchanging his test with Martin's. Proving that he can think quickly etc.

This episode does a fine job of satire. It is easy to see that academia is the target. Although not as strong a satire as Simpsons Roasting is it still does a great job a satirizing modern academia's fixation on finding the next genius and wanting him at your facility. So that you can be the first to reap the rewards of his genius and get some academic respect from your peers etc.

Bart has always been an truly interesting character(although not as much now) and this episode is no different. It does a great job of providing the foundation for Bart's experience in school and his feelings towards the whole prospect of academia and culture, This episode also does a good job of proving Bart's out of class intelligence in his argument with Homer during Scrabble etc. But the best showing of Bart's character is in the scenes of the advanced school with that whn he gets out of his element he is really helpless like most 10 year olds so it is really relatable. This aspect of his character I think is handled a bit better in Bart gets an F but this episode does a great job as well

Although this episode like most season 1 episodes may not be hilarious gag every 30 seconds sort of deal it was still funny with the scrabble game/the opera scene and the scenes in J.. Loren Pryor's office and the scenes in the advanced school.

Grade:A-

Who is that picture in Skinner's office supposed to be of?

The animation in this episode looks really good, while being crude. Dynamic

Why are these kids such insufferable shitheads?

Nice to see Homer and the kids bonding at the opera and Bart's confession to Homer is another great tender moment that does a great job of adhering us to the family.
